Decomposition Products of SF6

  • At very high temperatures, or in the presence of an electric arc, SF6 can be slowly decomposed
  • Decomposition byproducts include lower fluorides of sulfur, which are hydrolyzable, yielding SO2 and HF.
  • Moisture will react with SF6 decomposition products in the presence of an electrical discharge to form a variety of compounds.

SF6 By-Products

Many compounds are formed from SF6 in various concentrations. Below are the major compounds to look out for:

  • SOF4 – Thionyl tetrafluoride
  • SOF2 – Thionyl Difluoride
  • SO2 – Sulfur Dioxide
  • HF – Hydrogen Fluoride

Good maintenance practices will include periodic SF6 gas analysis.

Designed to store up to 80 litres of gas, the Rapidox SF6 Gas Recovery Bag allows for numerous tests before it requires emptying. Once the user has finished their assessment or the gas bag has become full, it can be returned to a recycling facility for correct disposal.

The bag is constructed from an extremely tough, heavy duty DP472 PU (712028) coated polyamide material. A safety blow off valve is incorporated, in addition to a clear pocket on the side for documents and a strong reinforced handle for transport.

Calibration KitsCalibration Kits vacuum

Supplied in a smart carry case with two canisters of calibration gas (gases depend on the exact analyser configuration), this is a convenient way of quickly checking and calibrating your Rapidox gas analysers or gas detection instruments. Each canister is filled with 112 litres of calibration gas giving approximately 220 minutes of gas flow.
Calibration kits are supplied with either a fixed flow regulator (for analysers without sample pumps) or a special demand flow regulator (for analysers with sample pumps). All gas cylinders are fully compliant with the latest standards and legislation, and independent gas analysis certificates are supplied for each gas bottle.
Cambridge Sensotec also supplies a full range of gas regulator valves, demand flow regulators and carry cases. Optional independent calibration certificates for gas cylinders are available at a small additional cost.

Rapidox 2112 Multiplex

Rapidox 2112 Multiplex Gas Sampling System - Rear View vacuumRapidox 2112 Multiplex Gas Sampling System - Front View vacuumThe Rapidox 2112 Multiplex System is designed for analysing multiple gas sampling sequentially using just one analyser. Available with 5, 10 or 15 independent gas inlet ports that are fed to a single gas outlet using a system of electronically controlled solenoid valves. Programmed and operated using the bespoke Rapidox software supplied with the 2112, the Rapidox Multiplex is intended for stand-alone applications. However, there is a manual override switch on the unit.

As software commands the system, the user has full control over the sampling time for each of the channels. If a channel is not required, then the timeis set to zero. The software also synchronises with the Rapidox analyser so that the user can easily tell which channel is being sampled at any time. Labelling options and colour coding allow for each channel to be easily identified throughout the data-logging process.

Due to the manual facility, the Multiplex can be used with any other gas sampling system or gas process application that requires multiple sample points.
